Admission Process

Endorsement in Gifted & Talented Education

The Endorsement as Teacher for Gifted Education program at NKU is designed to help certified educators earn licensure in gifted and talented education. The four-course sequence may also be used as the specialization of the Masters of Arts, the Fifth-Year Program, or the Professional Area of the Rank 1.

The curriculum is based on the Kentucky Experienced Teacher Standards, Standards for Gifted Education developed by the Council for Exceptional Children with additional requirements deemed appropriate by the graduate faculty at NKU. The endorsement can be completed part-time within 12 months in an online format. The course sequence is as follows:

Fall (Aug.-Dec.)

EDG 621: Introduction to Gifted Education
Spring (Jan.-May) EDG 623: Teaching Creative and Higher-Level Thinking
Summer (May) EDG 625: School Programs for Gifted Children and Seminar
Summer (June-July) EDG 627: Field Experiences in Gifted Education

Admission Process

If you are interested in applying for graduate admission, please follow these steps:

1. Submit the Application for Graduate Admissions by August 1.

a. Apply Online as an Unclassified/Non-Degree student; and

OR… If you plan to apply to a graduate program at NKU

c. Apply and select the MED, Rank I or Fifth Year program and notify the graduate office that you are also interested in the G/T Endorsement. Visit the Graduate Education Website for more information about requirements. Please note that the MAEd is offered online with this specialization.

2. Request official transcripts from all institutions attended to be mailed directly to NKU, Office of Graduate Programs, Nunn Drive, Highland Heights, KY 41099
